US-based multinational energy company Bergamo Acquisition Corp on Friday announced its plan to set up a mega solar thermal power plant in Himachal Pradesh by investing $400 million.
The announcement was made by Hillard Herzog, president and CEO of Bergamo. The publicly-traded company has its base in Nevada state.
“The company has identified Himachal Pradesh for the first phase under which it will set up 100-Mw solar thermal power plants in the hill state with an investment of $400 million,” Hergoz said.
“The company will set up the plant in the Baddi Barotiwala area of Solan district, which will create jobs for around 10,000 people in the region,” he said.
Hergoz is currently in India along with senior technical members to start the feasibility report to identify and propose locations to set up the units. He will be meeting top government officials and the state chief minister.
“The company is also setting up a consumer-cum-retail division in technical collaboration with Suntrough Technologies in Solan district of Himachal to provide cost-effective high-quality solar products — solar outdoor lights, garden lights, street lights, water heaters and other products which will reduce energy consumption,” he said.

The company has already the process of certifications and permissions, and plans to launch its products by the middle of November. It plans to set up the production unit to make solar products by March 2011.
The firm has set up a joint venture company, Bergamo Harbinson Energy Ltd, Gurgaon, between Bergamo and promoters of Esoft Informatics Pvt Ltd, a software company based in India. Bergamo will have 60 per cent share equity and Esoft 40 per cent.
