Matrimonial website Bharat Matrimony registered a 25 per cent increase in paid registrations as compared with September. Bharat Matrimony is part of Consim Info, which is backed by investors such as Yahoo, Canaan Partners and Mayfield Fund.

Talking to Business Standard, P Goplakrsihnan, chief marketing officer, Consim Info, said, “Though there had been a fear of registrations plummeting, the last three months were really good for Bharat matrimony websites, despite the meltdown."

Gopalakrishnan said the forthcoming festival season would see at least 10 per cent more in the coming days. The company, which has a network of 15 regional portals and over 12 million members, is looking at added presence with its newly-launched Christian matrimony website service.

“To add to the presence of the brand, we have also tied up with mobile service provider Bharti Airtel as well as digital television brand TataSky to sell the concept of online matrimonial services,” Gopalakrishnan said refusing to divulge the amount of money involved in expansion and tie-ups.

The company has also lined up services in the US and West Asia. While the online matrimony services market has the potential to grow up to 60 per cent year on year, Bharat Matrimony as a brand is growing at around 80 per cent annually, he added.

“Apart from the online services, physical presence has been ensured through as many as 100 centres across India. The Dubai centre adds to this number,” Gopalakrishnan said. As in other parts of the country, in Kerala too, all city and town centres would have a retail presence by way of offices, Goplakrsihnan added.
