Bharti Airtel rejigs top management

Bharti Airtel, in a major management restructuring today, appointed Sanjay Kapoor as CEO of India and South Asia operations. Kapoor replaces Manoj Kohli, who will now be the CEO of newly created entity International Business Group of Bharti Airtel and joint managing director.

The new organisation structure will effective from the start of next financial year, i.e; April 1, 2010.

The restructuring has been done with the objective to enhance company's focus on expanding operations to international markets beyond Indian and South Asia.

Sunil Bharti Mittal, CMD of Bharti Airtel, said, "The next phase of our journey is set to be another game changer - requiring superior thrust and focused leadership. We will be developing comprehensive plans for our journey to cover emerging markets beyond India and South Asia. This new structure will leverage our management depth and build a strong platform for fulfilling our global vision."

Kohli and Kapoor will report to Mittal.

Bharti Airtel has 118 million customers which includes 116 million mobile customers. The company has four strategic business segments - mobile, telemedia, enterprise and digital TV.

On the Bombay Stock Exchange, shares of the company were trading at Rs 318.75, down 3.4 % at IST 1241.
