Bharti Airtel today announced that it had reached 50 million customers during the end of September. This has made the company the tenth largest in the global telecomm industry, in terms of subscribers. The company aims to reach the 100 million subscriber mark in the coming years. The 50 million customers constitute mobile, broadband and telephone services, with the wireless segment contributing as much as 96% (47.99 million) of the total subscriber base. The company also has plans to launch a direct-to-home (DTH) television service by the end of the fiscal year in March 2008, said Akhil Gupta, joint managing director, Bharti Airtel. The company has plans to spread to over 5 lakh villages and other towns by 2010 covering 95% of the total population. |
