Bharti appoints Suren Goonewardene as Sri Lanka CEO

Leading telecom operator Bharti Airtel today appointed Suren Goonewardene as the CEO of its Sri Lanka operations.

"We look forward to him spearheading our long-term goals in Sri Lanka through meaningful connections with our internal as well as external stakeholders," Bharti Airtel CEO-India and South Asia Sanjay Kapoor said in a statement.

In his new role, Goonewardene will report to Vineet Taneja, Operations Director–South and Sri Lanka at Bharti Airtel.

Prior to joining Airtel, Goonewardene worked with Dialog Telekom and Lanka Bell.

Bharti Airtel Lanka is a subsidiary of Bharti Airtel that commenced operations in Sri Lanka in January, 2009. The company raced up to the 1 million customer milestone in record time.

 

Since then, Airtel has expanded its presence to over 1,500 base stations across Sri Lanka and has introduced a wide range of innovative service offerings aimed at enriching the lives of its customers, the statement added.

Bharti Airtel has a customer based of over 242 million customers across 19 countries in Asia and Africa.
