Bharti Wal-Mart launches associate volunteer programme

Bharti Wal-Mart, the joint venture between Bharti Enterprises and US-based Wal-Mart Stores Inc, today announced the launch of its associate volunteer programme in India.

The initiative is being undertaken in partnership with Cadbury India and the first project would involve undertaking infrastructure development at a government-run school in Gurgaon, Bharti Wal-Mart said in a statement.

"Our project in Gurgaon demonstrates our commitment as a company to education and vocational training, which we believe are the cornerstones to India's development," Bharti Wal-Mart Managing Director and CEO Raj Jain said.

The associate volunteer programme involves Bharti Wal-Mart associate members undertaking volunteer work as the local level.

 

Under the Gurgaon project, the company's volunteers would take part in re-painting the school building, develop the school garden and take up tree planting and installation of swing sets, the company added.
