Close on the heels of announcing an investment of Rs 1,000 crore to upgrade capacity at various plants, power equipment major BHEL today said it was planning to double overseas business in the 11th five-year Plan.

"We are aiming at doubling export turnover to about Rs 2,000 crore during the 11th Plan. This year, we should end up with an export turnover of over Rs 900 crore, which is 10% of our total turnover," BHEL CMD A K Puri said in an exclusive interview.

While upgrading capacity to supply equipment to add 10,000 MW annually in the 11th plan (2007-12), the export market has also been kept in mind, he said, adding that BHEL would also bid for overseas projects in association with NTPC.

"We are tying up with NTPC where they want to bid for a project like in Sri Lanka. Power Finance Corporation (PFC) will provid funding for such projects," Puri said.
