State-run power equipment maker BHEL today said it has received the highest ever orders from private sector customers in 2009-10 for supplying equipment of power generation capacity 14,689 MW.
The companies from which the public sector major secured projects include ACC, Abhijit, Adhunik, Avantha, Hindalco, Indiabulls, Jaypee Group, Jindal Power, Strelite, Tatas and Videocon, BHEL Chairman and Managing Director B P Rao said.
The highest ever orders from private sector firms shows better customer confidence, Rao said.
BHEL also said that it has total orders worth Rs 1,43,800 crore -- the highest ever -- in hands for execution in the financial year 2010-11 and beyond.
In the power sector business segment, the Navratna firm secured orders worth Rs 41,976 crore in 2009-10.
BHEL today reported a jump of nearly 37 per cent in its net profit to Rs 4,287 crore in 2009-10. The company had a net profit of Rs 3,138 crore during the previous financial year.
During FY'10, state-run major's turnover increased to Rs 34,050 crore from Rs 28,033 crore in fiscal 2008-09.
The shares of BHEL rose by nearly one per cent and were quoting at Rs 2,409 in the afternoon trade on the Bombay Stock Exchange.
