BHEL bags Rs 854cr CESC power project contract

Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) has bagged a Rs 854 crore turnkey contract for CESC's 250MW Budge Budge-III unit.

"BHEL has been awarded the EPC contract without chimney and switch gear construction. The total contract is worth Rs 854 crore," P K Basu,  executive director (generation) of CESC, said.

BHEL pipped nearest contender South Korean Doosan Heavy Industries in the final round.

Total project cost of the Budge Budge-III unit is close to Rs 1,000 crore and the project would be completed within the next 36 months.

The zero date for the 250-MW thermal project has been fixed at January 2007. After the expansion, total capacity of the Budge Budge plant would increase to 750MW by 2010.
