BHEL Bangalore divisions report 14.2% rise in PBT

Buoyed by the strong order intake, the Bangalore-based divisions of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) have registered a 14.2 per cent jump in profit before tax at Rs 506 crore for year-ended March 31, 2009, compared to the previous year. The combined turnover of the divisions went up by 16.7 per cent to Rs 2,116 crore compared to the previous year. In Bangalore, BHEL operates three divisions -- the electronics division, industrial systems group (ISG) and ceramic business unit.

The order book position of the company grew 17.2 per cent to Rs 5,700 crore for the year-ended March 2009 compared to the last fiscal year. The company bagged new orders worth Rs 2,931 crore in 2008-09. During the year, the export revenue of the three divisions increased by 3.4 times to Rs 561 crore as against the last financial year. The outstanding export orders for the current year stand at Rs 330 crore, G Ganapathiraman, executive director, said.

 

The turnover of electronics division went up by 20 per cent to Rs 1,274 crore, while the industrial systems group reporting a 17 per cent rise to touch Rs 551 crore. The ceramics business unit turnover rose 13 per cent to Rs 291 crore compared to the previous year.
