Bhel Bhopal unit eyes Rs 105 crore profit

Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd's (Bhel) Bhopal unit is likely to post a profit of Rs 105 crore for 2003-04. According to sources, the unit, which has registered a production turnover of Rs 1,475 crore in 2003-04, will set a target of Rs 1,552 crore for 2004-05.
 
The Bhopal unit, known as the mother unit, manufactures equipment, mainly heavy engineering machinery for power transmission, industry, transportation, non-conventional energy, oil and gas exploration and telecommunications.
 
The turbine unit of the plant has registered a turnover of Rs 334 crore.
 
Electric machines and diesel generator production unit has registered production of Rs 333 crore against the target of Rs 335 crore. Other manufacturing divisions of the unit are likely to exceed their respective target this year.
 
The workers and trade unions, in view of the likely profit of Rs 105 crore may raise a demand for 20 per cent bonus this year said sources.
 
BHEL Bhopal unit officials were not available for comment on the performance of the unit and said the unit management will soon announce the results but sources said timely completion of orders played a vital role in the performance of the unit.
 
BHEL Bhopal has also supplied eight hydro turbines of 125 MW each to 1000 MW Indira Sagar unit at Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh. "The company will soon tap the potential in higher megawatt capacity of hydro turbines.
