BHEL secures Rs 990 cr order from Indian Railways

Power equipment maker Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) today said it has bagged an order worth Rs 990 crore from the Indian Railways for supply of electric locomotives.     

BHEL has bagged the single-largest order in transportation business for supplying 150 electric locomotives to the Indian Railways for Rs 990 crore, making it the highest value single order received from the Indian Railways, it said in a statement.     

The company is already executing an order for 50 numbers of similar locomotives for Indian Railways and the present order is in addition to the ongoing order.     

As part of this order, the company is infusing new investments at its Jhansi plant. The company will manufacture and supply these locomotives at the rate of 50 per year from its Jhansi unit.     

 

During the fiscal ended March 31, 2009, BHEL's industry sector business segment registered a record order inflow of Rs 10,254 crore.     

Shares of BHEL closed at Rs 2,263.65, up 1.20 per cent on BSE.
