Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) -- the flagship entity of the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) -- has developed new product grades that would be used for manufacturing earth moving equipment.
“The SAIL EME 250 and SAIL EME 350 brands of the customized plates for earth moving equipment sector have been formally launched by the BSP,” the company spokesperson said. The grades were in demand from the customers and the plant had successfully developed it, he added.
In an increasingly competitive market, development of new and customized product grades for its customers is one of the major strengths of the BSP, the spokesperson said, adding that the development of SAIL EME 250 and SAIL EME 350 grade plates for manufacturers of Earth Moving Equipment is an example.

The two products were conceived and developed in-house by Research and Control Laboratory with active involvement of SMS 2 and Plate Mill, doing away the problem of Lamellar tearing of Plates during fabrication.
The spokesperson said the successful development of the Customized plates in mild and high tensile categories and its performance in the field trials received an overwhelming response and appreciation from the leading EME manufacturers like L&T Komatsu, RSB Transmission, BEML, Caterpillar and Hyundai etc.
The BSP, located 40 km from the state capital of Chhattisgarh, has taken up a modernisation and expansion project to enhance the Plant's production to 7.5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of Hot Metal from the current level of 5 MTPA with an investment of over Rs 17,265 crore.
