Bhoruka crosses 100 mw capacity

Bhoruka Power Corporation Limited (BPC), renewable energy producer, has crossed installed capacity of 100 mw.
 
The company attained 100 mw by implementing two small hydro projects -- the 24 mw Chayadevi project in Gulbarga district and the 9 mw project near Dharmasthala.
 
BPC is also taking up two smaller hydro projects "� one in Dakshina Kannada and the other in Kodagu district, bordering Kerala.
 
The small hydro project in Gulbarga District in Karnataka utilises the flows in river Krishna en-route to Andhra Pradesh. The 24 mw Chayadevi project can generate 60 million units per annum and is being set up at a cost of Rs 75 crore, said company's managing director S Chandrasekhar.
 
The 9 mw hydro project coming up near Dharmasthala utilises the flows of Neria River, a tributary of Netravati. The project being set up at a cost of Rs 32 crore can generate 25 million units per annum.
 
Both projects are lined up to be commissioned in the first half of 2006, will take the installed capacity to 77 mw.
 
"Bhoruka Power will be the first in India to have achieved 100 mw capacity through renewables mainly, small hydro projects. In fact, it could be the only one in the world, operating 14 power stations for a capacity of 100 mw successfully," claimed Chandrasekhar.
