Big Cinemas, a division of Reliance Media Works Ltd. and member of the Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG) has lined up the launch of its multi-screen theatres in Rajkot. While the company opened its first cinema at Crystal Mall in Rajkot recently, Big Cinemas has taken on lease a single screen theatre to open its second multiplex.

"We have taken Dharam Cinema on lease to start another multiplex in Rajkot. The company is in the process of refurbishing that property but it will be eight months or a year before it opens as a multiplex,” said Satwik Lele, area manager, Setup, Big Cinemas, without divulging further details on the project.

BIG Cinemas has opened at the Rajkot Crystal Mall with three screens and a total capacity of 907 seats. "We have made an investment of around Rs 5-6 crores to develop this property," said Ashish Saksena, COO, Big Cinemas. Saurashtra as a sub-distribution territory contributes about 10-12 per cent of total collections in the traditional Mumbai distribution territory, according to company officials. In Gujarat, BIG Cinemas has around 19 screens and are present in the cities of Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Jamnagar, Palanpur, Vapi and Gandhidham.
