Birla Corporation bottomline up 272%
 
M P Birla group flagship company Birla Corporation has registered 272 per cent rise in profit-after-tax for the quarter ended September 30, 2006, due to better realisation.
 
The turnover of Rs 417.06 crore, an increase of 35 per cent, was the highest-ever recorded by the company in the second quarter. Rajendra Singh Lodha, chairman Birla Corporation, attributed the performance to increase in volume of blended cement, better realisation and favourable market conditions for cement.
 
While operating profit jumped Rs 103.16 crore during the quarter under review, profit-before-tax increased to Rs 90.45 crore from Rs 21.24 crore in the corresponding quarter, recording an increase of 326 per cent. The earnings per share for the quarter had also gone up to Rs 8.77 from Rs 2.36 during the same quarter in the last fiscal.

Graphite India net up 56% at Rs 227 cr
 
Graphite India has registered 56 per cent increase in sales to Rs 227.07 crore for the quarter ended September 30, 2006. Net profit for the quarter increased 11 per cent to Rs 27.43 crore, due to buoyant demand and well-timed expansion.
 
For the half year, net profit, including extraordinary income of Rs 96.12 crore from the sale of surplus land in Bangalore, was higher at Rs 142.14 crore, compared with Rs 20.18 crore for the corresponding period in the previous year.
 
Excluding the extraordinary income, net profit was higher by 131 per cent.The company expects strong performance as demand for graphite electrodes is set to increase to 1.3 million tonne by 2010 against current estimated global capacity of 1 million tonne.

Adhunik Metaliks net up 30%

Value added and alloy steel manufacturer Adhunik Metaliks has registered 30 per cent increase in net profit to Rs 20.21 crore for the quarter ended September 30, 2006, on the back of surge in steel prices.
 
Sales (net of excise) for the quarter was at Rs 176.38 crore. For the half year ended September 30, net sales were at Rs 423.78 crore, an increase of 22 per cent. Net profit for the current half year was at Rs 35.74 crore compared with Rs 33.71 crore for the whole of last year.
 
Gontermann net up 130%
 
Gontermann-Peipers (India) has recorded 130 per cent increase in net profit for the quarter ended September 30, 2006, to Rs 3.63 crore, on the back of 17 per cent increase in exports.
 
Net turnover grew by 33.58 per cent to Rs 39.28 crore while EPS has increased from Rs 4.52 to Rs 10.44. The company foresees good prospects for the rolls industry and is eyeing acquisitions in the space.
 
Goldiam posts 32 % rise in net profit
 
Goldiam International's stand alone income from manufacture and sale of jewelery was Rs 4322.60 lakh for the quarter ended September 30, 2006, compared with Rs 3,255.47 lakh for the previous year, 32 per cent increase.
 
Profit-before-tax was Rs 871.12 lakhs while the corresponding figure during the previous year stood at Rs 669.06 lakhs, 30 per cent increase. Tax provision increased from 3.83 per cent to 30.82 per cent in the current quarter. Due to higher tax provision for the quarter, the company posted profit-afte-tax at Rs 602.63 lakh compared with Rs 643.44 lakh for the September quarter 2005.
 
An interim dividend of Rs 1 per share (10 per cent on par value of Rs 10 per share) is recommended. Consolidated revenue for the quarter ended September 30, 2006, was at Rs 14,245.20 lakh, 42 per cent growth over the corresponding quarter during the previous year.
 
Profit-befor-tax was Rs 1,664.01 lakh while the corresponding figure during the previous year stood at Rs 1,378.32 lakh. Profit-afte-tax stood at Rs 1,247.35 lakh against Rs 1,326.56 lakh recorded during the corresponding quarter in the previous year.
