Birla Corp ramps up cement capacity

Birla Corporation, an M P Birla group company, has ramped up its combined cement making capacity to 6.4 million tonne by adding one million tonne from its new unit at Durgapur in West Bengal.

The company today announced the commencement of commercial
production of its new unit, Durga Hitech Cement, at Durgapur, which has an installed capacity of one million tonne.

The combined capacity of the company in Bengal stood at 1.6 million tonne, company officials said. The existing unit of Birla Corporation in the state, Durgapur Cement Works, has a capacity of 0.6 million tonne.

Birla Corporation has also commmisioned two 27 MW power plants at its facilities in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan this year.
