Aditya Birla Retail Ltd (ABRL), the retail arm of Aditya Birla Group, has shut down its retail operation in Nashik. The company has closed its all 13 supermarkets under the brand name- ‘More’ here in Nashik.

Around 175-200 persons, who were working in ABRL’s supermarkets- ‘More’, have lost their jobs due to closure of its all stores in Nashik.

The company had launched its retail chain of supermarkets under the brand name ‘More’ in February 2008.

Presently, the company has total 632 supermarkets and six hypermarkets across the country under the brand name ‘More’.

In the calendar year 2008, ABRL had opened 13 stores in Nashik, which were located at Canada Corner, Indira Nagar, Lekhanagar, Gangapur Road and in other parts of the city. But after a short period of one-and-a-half year, the company has shut down all 13 supermarkets in Nashik due to poor response.

“ABRL has closed down all 13 stores in Nashik due to high rentals and poor response from consumers. This decision was part of the company’s policy to close down unviable retail stores,” sources told Business Standard.
