BMW signs MoU for car unit in Chennai

German car company BMW today signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Tamil Nadu government to set up a car assembly plant at a cost of Rs 180 crore at Maraimalai Nagar near Chennai.

"The MoU was signed by BMW general managers Ronald Gentsch and Peter Kronschnabl and TN industries secretary D Rajendran at the secretariat here in the presence of chief minister J Jayalalithaa," an official statement said.

The facility would come up within five years at Mahindra World City in Maraimalai Nagar, about 50 km from the city, the release added.
