The 3-Series sedan was the topper last year, selling around 643 units while the 5-Series lagged behind at around 300 units. Speaking at the sidelines of the launch of their first dealer outlet in eastern India, OSL Prestige, Ralf Bissinger, director, sales & marketing, BMW India, said that as Mercedes Benz had shifted focus to its C-class cars and the Mercedes E-class was nearing an end in its life-cycle in India, the BMW 5-Series had a huge potential to grow in the Indian market. Though the model was around five years old, it has been launched in India around a year back with facelift and had miles to go, added Bissinger.

Merecedes Benz has been operating in India for over a decade now and had launched the new C-class at the Delhi Auto Expo in January and already sold 574 units between January to March this year.
