BoA approves denotification of Welspun's Anjar SEZ

The company had sought denotification citing non-viability of the SEZ

The Special Economic Zone (SEZ) Board of Approval (BoA) has approved the denotification of Welspun Anjar SEZ Limited's sector specific SEZ in Kutch district of Gujarat.

The company had sought the denotification citing non-viability of the SEZ, which was functional with units working on textile and garment products for exports. The SEZ was spread across an area of 109.59 hectares.

The company had earlier stated that the units in the zone had been debonded and "an amount equivalent to the tax/duty exemption availed had been deposited to the Government Account".

It may be mentioned here that Gujarat has seen denotification of a number of SEZs, which include a textile and apparel SEZ of Pradip Overseas Limited (POL) and Gallops' multi-product SEZ of NG Group in Ahmedabad, K Raheja Corporation-led special purpose vehicle (SPV) Strength Real Estate Pvt. Ltd.'s IT/ITeS SEZ at Vemali near Vadodara as well as Essar's Hazira SEZ.  
 

The BoA recently also approved denotification of 40 per cent of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL)'s Jamnagar SEZ.
