The ongoing slowdown in the economy is taking a toll on Bosch India, an original equipment supplier to the automobile industry. Just days after it announced that it will temporarily suspend select assembly line operations at its Nashik plant, the company on Tuesday announced that it is also temporarily closing down the manufacturing activity of starters and generators at its Naganathapura plant in Bangalore starting from December 19 and on till December 31, 2008.

The company said it is taking this decision in order to adjust production to meet the demand for products and to avoid unnecessary inventory build-up. This comes close on the heels of a lockout at another of its plant in Jaipur where more than 1,000 workers are on a strike.
