BPL Innovision, the convergence business of BPL Group, is planning to invest around Rs 1,500 crore in its new broadband and internet venture, BPL Internetworks Ltd. The group will offload up to 49 per cent stake in the new business to a foreign partner.
And for starters, it has decided to bid for an IP2 (infrastructure licence-lit fibre) licence which will allow it to sell capacities and later move one step further by seeking a licence to become a national long distance operator (NLDO). The name of the new merged entity is expected to be changed to BPL Broadband Networks.
