England's Business Secretary Peter Mandelson has said he is disappointed with the decision of Tatas-owned Corus to shut operations at some of the mills at Teesside steel plant. “I am very disappointed by the mothballing of the plant at Teesside,” Mandelson said in an interview to private broadcaster CNBC TV 18.

“It is very important indeed that Corus remains in touch with the workers and the British government because, together, we have a joint responsibility to look into the needs of the workers and the local community,” he said. Asked if the British government would judge Tatas by their efforts to look for alternatives to ‘mothball’ the mills, he said, “Of course, we do. We do with every employer. It is not a warning, it is an invitation.”
