One of the most enduring images of Bangalore is the sprawling International Tech Park at Whitefield, which started the trend of integrated campuses for technology companies in India. Ascendas, the Singapore-based company, is the major shareholder in this and the company has been expanding aggressively in India for the past 12 years.
Having established a good presence in India during the past decade, Ascendas is bringing on board Thomas Teo, a veteran of Ascendas in Singapore to take the reins of India operations. Teo takes over from Lim Sin Tiow, who will return to the company’s Singapore office to assume the role of executive vice-president (real estate services).
Teo has been associated with Ascendas for over 15 years in various leadership roles, managing the company’s properties portfolio in Singapore. He has been responsible for development and project management, asset management, property and facility management, as well as lease and customer service management of its Singapore properties.
An MSc in construction management from the University of Bath, he has over 20 years of experience of working with companies like DBS Land and OCBC Property Services. He joined Technology Parks in 1996 as a senior manager to head its project management division.
For Ascendas, India is one of the key markets and has grown significantly both in terms of expansion within existing IT Parks and increasing its footprints in the country. Currently, it has eight projects spread across six cities.
