Power major BSES, as part of its proposed thrust on the transmission business, has decided to participate in the development of some point-to-point transmission projects offered to the private sector by the government. The government has offered seven such projects during the year in a further opening up of the power sector.
Speaking at the company's annual general meeting today, chairman and managing director R V Shahi said BSES' plans were to develop three transmission lines and acquire five more distribution networks in the country.
The company is also pursuing opportunities in distribution systems in New Delhi, Kanpur and Karnataka and the company would focus on city- and town-based distribution privitisation opportunities, Shahi added.
BSES will participate in the development of some of the hydro-electric projects being offered by some states for which power can be sold to other states since these projects are based on low generation costs.
The firm proposes to develop power projects with an aggregate capacity of 9,000 mw as per the BSES Business Plan 2012.
It would also continue in its core areas of power generation , transmission and distribution to the extent of 85 to 90 per cent of its resources. During the first four months of the current financial year, BSES has posted a turnover of Rs 916 crore compared with Rs 831 crore in the corresponding period last year.
Units generated have also seen a marginal rise to 1,266 MUs compared with 1220 MUs in the corresponding period , while units purchased and sold were 1082 MUs and 1957 MUs, respectively, compared with 1030 MUs purchased and 1,872 MUs sold in the corresponding period of the previous year.
