BSNL pays Rs 3,000cr to govt

State-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam (BSNL) has paid Rs 3,000 crore to the government. According to a release issued by BSNL today, the cheque was presented to IT and Communications Minister A Raja by CMD Kuldeep Goyal.

BSNL had earlier paid Rs 2,000 crore and Rs 2,500 crore as repayment of loan in 2005-06 and 2006-07, respectively.

According to the release, BSNL contributed over Rs 12,800 crore in 2006-07 in the form of dividend, licence fee, corporate tax, service tax and repayment of loan.

The loan of Rs 7,500 crore was given to BSNL as part of capital structure without any additional cash inflow from the government at the time of corporatisation of BSNL.
