Bsnl Plans 160% Hike In Corporate Phone Rentals

In a bid to cushion the huge revenue loss as a result of over the 60 per cent reduction in STD tariffs, the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd is planning to increase the monthly rentals for corporate users from Rs 250 to Rs 650. The company is also planning to reduce the pulse rate for a local call from 3 minutes to 2 minutes.

Top company sources said that these plans are at the proposal stage and will have to be approved by the government. If cleared, BSNL stands to gain close to Rs 10,000 crore --- Rs 8,000 crore from increasing the rentals and another Rs 2,000 crore from reducing the pulse rate. This would more than offset BSNL
