Butterfly unveils self protection pepper spray

Butterfly Electricals & Electronics wants to have a first mover advantage in Chennai with the launch of a self protection product called 'Wild for Wild'.

Addressing mediapersons, V M Kumaresan, managing director of Butterfly Electricals & Electronics, said that this product was targeted at working women who can use it for self protection. 'Wild for Wild' comes in a compact aerosol canister containing a mix of red chilli pepper extracts.

'Wild for Wild' has been developed by the in-house research and development of the company at an investment of Rs 2 crore, Kumaresan added. The product comes in three variants.

While the 55ml canister with low emission is priced at Rs 299, the 55ml canister with high emission is priced at Rs 499 and the 80 ml canister is priced at Rs 599. Butterfly group, popularly known for its kitchen utensils, has a turnover of Rs 250 crore.

The pepper spray can cause temporary blindness and complete incapacitation for two hours. However, Kumaresan said that this product if sprayed as a prank on a friend is a punishable offence.
