Cable Operators To Black Out All Channels From Tonight

Cable operators in Mumbai and New Delhi as well as other major metros have decided to black out the broadcast of all channels from 9.00 p m Tuesday up to midnight of July 24.

This is being done to protest against the delay in the tabling of the bill to amend the Cable TV Act in the Rajya Sabha.

These amendments will usher in the era of conditional access system, which will enable consumers to choose the channels they want to view.

The leading multi system operators (MSO) including INCablenet, WinCable, Siti Cable of the Zee group as well as other operators met in Mumbai today to decide on the course of action in view of the delay in adoption of the bill.

 

With operators in New Delhi already having started blacking out channels for one hour daily, the agitation is threatening to snowball and spread to other parts of the country besides the metros.
