Cairn India today said it will put the second biggest oil field in the Rajasthan block on production in second half of 2011, taking the total output to 1,75,000 barrel per day.

"Bhagyam oil field will start producing from second half of 2011," Cairn India CEO Rahul Dhir told reporters here.

Currently, Mangala, the biggest of the 18 oil discoveries in the Thar desert block, is producing 1,25,000 bpd but has potential to do "much more", he said.

Bhagyam is targeted to produce a peak output of 40,000 bpd by year end, Dhir said adding this would help the company achieve the approved peak output of 1,75,000 bpd.

Dhir, who met Oil Secretary S Sundareshan, refused to comment on London-listed mining group Vedanta Resources' buying majority stake in the company.
