The Odisha government has decided to upgrade the Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar to the status of a Post Graduate Institute in line with the PGIMER in Chandigarh.
This was disclosed by state health minister Damodar Rout in the state assembly today. Rout said, a proposal was submitted to the finance department seeking approval for an expenditure of Rs 82.12 crore to create required infrastructure, including construction of buildings, for the proposed PGI.
"The finance department has advised us to re-submit it in the form an Expenditure Finance Committee Memorandum and we are in the process of finalising it," Rout said.
In reply to another query in the House, Rout said, AIIMS Medical College in Bhubaneswar has started working since August, 2012. The OPD of this medical college, is functioning since June, this year. The AIIMS centre is currently providing health services under 16 departments and the surgical operation at the hospital will commence from January, 2014, he added.
