Care's heart surgery training centre

Care Hospital here has started a beating heart surgery training centre, claimed to be the first of its kind in India.

Inaugurating the centre, Gopichand Mannam, the hospital's chief cardiothoracic surgeon, stated that it was started keeping in view the enormous need to train young cardiac surgeons in this technique. The centre would offer training for young surgeons to acquire skills on virtual beating heart model and animal model.

"The ultimate goal would be to achieve excellence in surgical skills and be of use to the community at large," he said.

The inauguration of the centre on Saturday coincided with Gopichand's team completing over 1,000 beating heart bypass surgeries.
