Carlson Hotels buys Radisson

Hospitality major Carlson Hotels Worldwide has acquired Radisson Hotel Management Services by hiking its stake in the company to 87 per cent for an undisclosed amount.

RHW Hotel Services that manages Carlson hotels in India has bought Umak Investment Company Pvt Ltd's entire 74 per cent stake to acquire Radisson. The remaining 13 per cent is held by private equity investors.

The acquisition will enable Carlson, which earlier held 13 per cent stake in the company, strengthen its operations in development of projects, operations, marketing and sales, Carlson Chief Executive Officer and President Hubert Joly told reporters here.

Carlson Hotels Worldwide has presence in more than 1,060 locations in 77 countries. Its brands include Regent Hotels, Radisson Hotels and Resorts, Park Plaza, Country Inns and Suites and Park Inn.

RHW is a hotel management and consultancy services company, which manages Carlson hotels in India since 1998.

Post acquisition, the resultant entity will hire 70 more staff, taking total employee strength to 5,700, he said.

As part of its expansion strategy, Carlson Hotels Worldwide also plans to scale up its India business to 78 hotels by 2012 from the 28 at present.

It plans to open 50 more hotels by 2012, including flagship ones in major cities across the country, Joly said, adding that 16 hotels would be opened by December-end.
