The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) gave its approval and the project would be commissioned by June 2013, an official statement said adding the project would have four units of 111 MW each.
Tehri Hydro Development Corp (THDC) would contribute 50 per cent of the equity through internal accrual, while the remaining would be shared between the Centre and Uttar Pradesh government in the ratio of 3:1.
The project would contribute towards capacity addition and would help in reducing energy shortage in the northern region. The Vishnugad Pipalkoti HEP is located about 225 km from Rishikesh.
