The cellular mobile industry during September witnessed a four per cent jump in subscriber base which stood at 85.31 lakh compared with 71.71 lakh subscribers in August 2002.
In the metros, the cellular subscriber base expanded with a 4.99 per cent addition to the August 2002 number of 33.24 lakh subscriber to 34.90 lakh in September 2002.
Interestingly, Mahanagar Telephone Nigam (MTNL), having a capacity of one lakh lines for Mumbai and Delhi, has shown positive growth in September.
The number of subscribers in Delhi for MTNL grew to 1.09 lakh in September 2002 compared with 91,148 subscribers in August.
