Cement Despatches Up 10% In H1

Cement production and despatches were up 10 per cent each during the six months ended September 2002.

The cement production moved up from 49.48 million tonne during April-September 2001 to 54.31 million tonne in April-September 2002, up 9.76 per cent.

The despatches rose by 9.99 per cent from 49.40 million tonne to 54.34 million tonne. The half-yearly capacity moved up from 62.56 million tonne to 68.00 million tonne.

The capacity utilisation in the first half of 2002-03 moved up marginally from 79.10 per cent to 79.86 per cent, while the capacity of the cement industry was up 8.70 per cent during the period.

 

Cement majors such as ACC, Grasim and Gujarat Ambuja Cement were the major driving force behind the double-digit growth in production and despatches during the period.

Century Textiles, Larsen & Toubro (L&T), India Cement and Madras Cement were underperformers with a single-digit growth.
