While Mumbai saw a steep jump of Rs 10 per 50 kg bag to Rs 145 today, Hyderabad has witnessed a fall to Rs 86 per bag, down Rs 11, in the last two weeks.
Prices in the northern region have improved by Rs 3 per bag, while the price level in the eastern sector remained stable at Rs 160 per 50 kg bag. Prices in Delhi and Rajasthan are expected to touch Rs 111-112 per bag mark.
However the prices in the other southern cities have remained consistent with Bangalore at Rs 145 and Tamil Nadu around the Rs 150-160 range.
According to industry analysts, the price hike in Mumbai is not sustainable as it is not prompted by a genuine demand growth.
