Boosted by profits it made over the last three successive years, Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) has plans to spend Rs 90 crore for renovation of the company's quarters occupied by its employees besides discharging its corporate social responsibility (CSR).
The money would be spent in repair and maintenance work during the next three years with Rs 30 crore being earmarked for 2008-09, a company release said here today.
Recording over a thousand crore profit for three straight years, beside producing a record production of 44.15 million tonne of coal in 2007-08, the company has also set aside Rs 136.96 crore in welfare and community development activities — out of which community development is Rs 7.25 core.
Under its CSR policy, the release said, the public sector has taken significant steps with an aim to improve the quality of life of the people living in and around its commnad area spread over 2,600 sq km in Jharkhand — operating 26 underground and 37 open cast mines in eight of the state's 24 districts.
The company spent Rs 115.08 crore in 2007-08 towards welfare and community development, an 8 per cent increase compared to the previous fiscal.
According to the release, 125 km stretch of roads were constructed, 310 buildings housing schools, hospital rest houses repaired, education facilities provided by CCL through a network of 68 schools having a student strength of over 40,000, providing drinking water to 123 villages by installing hand-pumps and construction of wells.
The company also paid the state government for installation of 220 solar lights in the peripheral villages, the release added.
