Union steel minister Virbhadra Singh said the government would soon set up a steel plant in Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh.
“A central team of experts will visit Nahan in the next two weeks and look for an appropriate place for setting up the plant in and around Nahan town,” Singh said here on Friday.
According to him, acquiring land would not be problem since a vacant government land at the now closed state-run Nahan foundry factory was available.
The steel ministry has already decided to set up a steel plant in Kandrori in Kangra district. “We are also exploring the possibilities of setting up more steel plants in Himachal. Due to non availability of raw iron ore only finished steel plants can come up in the hill state,” he said.
