These insulators can be used in power projects (thermal and electrical) and generators.
"Within Uttar Pradesh's 400-km radius, no one manufactures such insulators. Rural electrification, which is to be carried over in the next 15 years, gives immense scope for the ceramic artisans. We have submitted a proposal regarding the making of such insulators to the Central government and are awaiting approval," Bibekanand Ray, executive director, Grameen crafts told Business Standard.
Grameen craft (GC), a Lucknow-based fair-trade organisation, undertakes projects at different districts in Uttar Pradesh in an attempt to help provide employment to the artisans and support their welfare activities.
They are involved in ceramic production in the districts of Lucknow and Khurja. The Ceramic factory spread across 21,000 square feet in Lucknow is located at dewa road.
"About 40 artisan families are directly involved at the factory, and their income has gown up by 80 per cent after our intervention. With this new initiative we want to employ 100 more people over a span of 3 years," Ray said.
The total estimated cost of the project is Rs 2.39 crore. "Out of the total cost, we want 75 per cent of it from the central government," he added. The organisation has decided to bear 10 per cent and will ensure the rest 15 per cent for the project itself.
