CERC emphasises upon grid discipline

Since November last year, the commission has issued show cause notices to seven state utilities defaulting on payment of UI charges including Uttar Pradesh, J&K, Madhya Pradesh, Daman & Diu, Bihar and Meghalaya.

"While some of these utilities are now making payments, the central regulator has decided to proceed against utilities of MP and Meghalaya under section-142 of the electricity act 2003 as these did not comply with the directions of the commission," said Pramod Deo, chairperson CERC.

 

While Madhya Pradesh POwer Transmission Company Ltd currently has an outstanding UI due of Rs 266 crore, Meghalaya SEB has an outstanding UI due of Rs 22 crore.

The chairman also said that the new tariff regulations (2009-2014) - which the regulator will announce by the end of February 2009
