Rediffusion DY&R on Monday announced the appointment of K S Chakravarthy as the national creative director (NCD).

Chakravarthy, or Chax as he is universally known, is returning to the ad agency business after three years of running his own ad film production house, Persistence of Vision (PoV).

At PoV he made ad films for clients such as Bajaj, Saint Gobain, Axe, Polo, LG, PSI (the NGO behind the iconic Balbir Pasha series), Thums Up and VIP.

Chakravarthy, an engineer by education, has worked with ad agencies such as Bates, JWT, Enterprise, Ulka, Lowe and Leo Burnett before starting PoV in 2002.

His creative work includes campaigns for Taj Mahal, Woodwords, Crystal, Wipro, Iodex, Pennzoil, Coke, Limca, Fiat, and Goodyear.

"At a time when I was trying to decide which road to take - on to feature films or back to advertising - along came Preet (Bedi) with an irresistible offer," says Chakravarthy of his decision to return to the agency business.

According to a media release, Chakravarthy has won over 75 awards and was among the first from India to win a Cannes Lion.
