Retailers in and around Chandigarh have a reason to cheer as they expect a boost in their sales during the three-day extended weekend holidays

Retailers in Chandigarh believe the three-day-holiday from August 14 to August 15, would indeed result in an upsurge in their business. Compared to normal weekends, shopkeepers are anticipating customers’ footfall to rise by 30 per cent in these three days, during which they would offer huge discounts in order to woo the buyers.

“There would be a 25-30 per cent increase in the footfalls in the next three days,” said a Big Bazaar, Zirakpur official. Future Group’s retail arm Big Bazaar is already running a six-day-sale which commenced on August 10 and officials maintain footfalls have increased since then.

All the malls in the region are also expecting heavy footfalls during the holidays. According to the staff in multiplexes the surge in footfall would be fuelled by multiplexes and retail stores.

Darpan Kapoor, president, Chandigarh Readymade Garment Distributor Association said, “We are anticipating the sales to double during the holidays. The anticipated surge in sales is fuelled by the fact that season sale is on in most of the retail chains and maximum discount is being offered. Hence, buyers would try to make the most of it.”
