Chandra steps down as CEO at NDTV

Company announces K V L Narayan Rao, executive vice-chairperson, as group CEO, in addition to his existing responsibilities

Vikram Chandra has stepped down from the post of group chief executive officer and executive director at New Delhi Television (NDTV), with immediate effect. The board of directors of the company approved the decision on Thursday. 

Chandra was appointed group CEO in 2011 for three years. Extended by two years, with the mandate to strengthen the company’s diversification into digital areas, while ‘retaining NDTV’s position as the most respected media brand’.

He was a prominent member of the NDTV family since 1994, in a large number of roles — reporter, anchor, a founding member of NDTV.com and CEO. He has expressed the wish to return to fulltime journalism within NDTV and focus on the group’s TV shows. He will continue in the capacity of consulting editor.
 

The company announced K V L Narayan Rao, executive vice-chairperson, woud be group CEO, in addition to his existing responsibilities. Rao has been with the company for nearly 22 years, in various capacities.

He has served three terms as president of the News Broadcasters Association (NBA). He has also been on the board of Indian Broadcasting Foundation (IBF) and vice-president of the Commonwealth Broadcasting Association. He continues to be on the board of both NBA and IBF.
