Costa’s store at Harrington Road is in line with the international design aesthetic of Costa. The store will serve over 25 varieties of hot and cold coffee and flavoured drinks along with range of snacks and food items from both the international range as well as a range customised to suit Indian palates and preferences.
Speaking on the occasion, Santosh Unni, CEO, Costa Coffee, India said, “We are delighted to have finally come to Chennai. It will be a privilege to serve the discerning coffee drinkers of Chennai and we are sure they will love the taste of our internationally celebrated coffee.”
UK based Costa Coffee was the first international coffee chain to set up business in India in September 2005 partnering with Devyani International Limited.
Beginning with its first store opening in Connaught Place in New Delhi, Costa Coffee has since established itself in markets in major metros and Tier 1 cities across India with stores in Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, Jaipur, Ludhiana and Agra and today serves over 4 million cups of coffee a year to customers across its stores in India.
Costa plans to triple its global footprint by 2015-2016. Much of this growth will come from the brands expansion in the emerging markets like China, Russia, North Africa and India.
“India is a success story for Costa Coffee and some of our learning here makes for a stronger pitch for Costa in emerging markets. We want to have a pan-Indian presence and make Costa the first choice for coffee among customers here,” said Andy Marshall, Managing Director- International Markets, Costa Coffee.
