The Chennai-Jakarta-Chennai flight was expected to be operational in a month or two, Indonesian Ambassador Rizali W Indrakesuma said.

The air operations were suspended after a Mumbai-Jakarta Garuda-flight crashed near Mumbai in 1997.

"After the air crash, the flight connecting Mumbai and Jakarta was cancelled but now, the government has planned to resume its air connectivity (with India) by launching the Chennai-Jakarta-Chennai flight by a month or two" he said.

"The Chennai-Jakarta-Chennai flight should be operated 'at least daily than weekly", the Ambassador told reporters at a function organised by Consultative Committee of City Chambers of Commerce here today.

He expressed hope that the Mumbai-Jakarta flight would be resumed.

Rizali, a graduate of International relations, also said that the trade relationship between Indonesia and India should be 'strengthened'.

"Constant flow of trade between the two countries is needed" he said, adding over the last three years India's investment in Indonesia has surpassed USD one billion.    "Trade between the two countries should be more and for that constant interaction is necessary", he said.
