Riding high on the three new launches of Chevrolet models, the Aveo, SRV and Aveo U-VA, General Motors India (GMI) clocked a 16.2% growth in sales at 35,823 units in 2006 as against sales of 30,837 units in 2005. "2006 has been a very memorable year, which marked the greatest product offensive in the company's history as the Chevrolet Indian Revolution picked up momentum," P Balendran, vice president of GMI, said. The company today reported 19.4% sales growth in December 2006 at 2,583 units as against 2,163 units in the same month in 2005. According to a statement issued by GMI, the company sold 1,517 units of Chevrolet Tavera, 759 units of Chevrolet Aveo and 307 units of Chevrolet Optra in December. The company, a subsidiary of world's largest automaker General Motors of the US, is currently expanding the capacity of its manufacturing facility in Halol to 85,000 units, and has also started construction of a greenfield manufacturing plant at Talegaon in Maharashtra, which is scheduled to open in the last quarter of 2008. |
