The Chhattisgarh power distribution company is working on a proposal to generate electricity bill on the spot and hand it over to consumers at the doorstep as part of its proposed spot-billing system.
Under the plan, company employees equipped with small computers would visit the houses. After noting down the reading from the meter, they would generate the electricity bill on the spot and hand it over to the consumer.
Sources said that the delay in survey started at selected colonies in the state capital had put the proposal on hold. The survey has received good response from the people and is likely to be completed soon.
The process for starting spot billing has already started and it will be formally introduced within five to six months, Managing Director of Chhattisgarh power distribution company G S Deshpande said.
The system would not only give respite to the customers, it would also solve the problem of average billing. The computer would carry all the records and billing history of the consumers, and hence there would be no complaint of inaccuracy or fault, the official said.
The record would be updated everyday in the divisional office. Sources said that the company was also examining the proposal to allow the consumers to pay the bill on the spot itself through the cheques.
Initially, the company is planning to launch the system in Raipur, steel city of Bhilai and Durg besides Bilaspur. Sources said that the system would be expanded in other cities in the later phases.
