CII to help build 10,000 toilets across schools by 2016

The construction is expected to cost between Rs 200-Rs 500 cr

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) on Wednesday launched an initiative in response to the Prime Minister's call to build toilets in the country and has announced the construction of 10,000 toilets across schools in the country.

The industry body will help private sector companies to help build toilets and will also undertake the construction through the CII Foundation. The construction of the toilets is expected to cost between Rs 200- Rs 500 crore and is to completed by 2016.

"We will start with 10000 toilets across the country and then take a call on Phase 2. There is a shortage of 4.17 lakh toilets across schools and the government will cover a lakh by their scheme", Sumit Mazumder, President Designate at CII said.

 

The Prime Minister had in his speech on Independence Day emphasised the need to construct toilets across the country and sought private sector participation for the same.
